Gritty Kitty Storage

I’ve been using kitty litter buckets for a while, now, but today I decided to get a little creative back at the fort. Pretty excited with the results, considering how easy it was to do this. A quick shot of brake cleaner, a simple wrap around the lower edge of the yellow section with 2″ wide painter’s tape, and two quick coats of 500*F gloss black (had it lying around), and I was done. Took about 10 minutes each!

These two “prototypes” will be used to hold sections of OEM wire harness and switchgear I’ve currently got in two other buckets.

This is what they looked like prior to the hastily-applied stencils.

And here’s a more sinister prototype, done all in black. I’m not sure how I’ll do the rest, but this sure looks better than bright yellow with information on clumping and odor control!

The 100% black looks like crap, IMO. The Half black ones look great.

I’ve never thought of spraying old containers to make them more generic. I Have a few cat litter tubs, and a few 5-gallon buckets. I will consider doing the same.

How will your choice of paint hold up to flexing, do you suppose?

I think the all-black looks good, but agree, the two-tone looks much better. The all-black was more an exercise in simplifying the prep process. Masking the top half takes maybe 5 minutes – tops – but the results speak for themselves.

Long term, I’m trying to decide whether I want to paint them all the same, and differentiate with the stencils, or if I want to do different buckets different colors. Maybe black buckets for rally car bits, grey buckets for daily driver. I might also do a couple up in Ralliart colors. ;)

Time will tell how the paint holds up. Next batch I do will be done with proper plastic paint, which should hold up better to flexing.
